MISHAWAKA – John C. Nicolini, 79, of Schererville, Ind. Died Friday at 6 p.m. in Munster Community Hospital, Munster, Ind. Mr. Nicolini has been a roller at Inland Steel. He was born June 28, 1912 in Mishawaka. He married Katherine Vlahos. She survives with a daughter, Kathleen of Schererville; a sister Nordina Waltz of Mishawaka; and a brother Raymond of Mishawaka.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Michael’s Church, Schererville.

Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. Friend may call from 2 to 5 and 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday in Burns-Kish Funeral Home, Munster. Memorial contributions mat be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church St. Michael’s Church.

John C. Nicolini, age 79, of Schererville, passed away Friday, July 5, 1991 at Community Hospital in Munster. He is survived by his loving wife Katherine; one daughter, Kathleen, at home; one brother Raymond, and one sister Nordina Waltz, both of Mishawaka’ two brothers-in-law, James (Evelyn) Vlahos and Louis Shepherd, both of Bradenton, Florida; one sister-in-law, Rose Vlahos of East Chicago, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 10:15 a.m. at the Burns Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Schererville at 11 a.m. with Msgr. A. H. Van Nevel and Father Patrick Connely celebrating the Mass. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary with Military Honors. Friend may call at the funeral home Monday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Elk services will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Nicolini was retired from Inland Steel Company as a roller in the 44-inch Hot Strip Mill; he served as a Platoon Sgt. With the 4^th Division in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, he received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat; before World War II he played professional football with the Calumet Indians of the American League; he was a member of the Order of Ahepafirst in the East Chicago Chapter #157 and later in the Hammon Chapter #123; a member of the B.P.O.E Elks Chapter #981.

Donations may be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Memorial Fund or St. Michael’s Church, both of Schererville, in his memory.
