Armando Nicolini, 1616 Division Street, a long time employee of Wheelabrator-Frye Inc. was dead on arrival at 10:28 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was 61.
Mr. Nicolini had been ill for the last six months and was taken to the hospital by private ambulance after becoming ill at the Michiana Regional Airport.
Born on March 14, 1913 in Allschwill, Switzerland, Mr. Nicolini had reside in Mishawaka since 1923 coming here with his family from Steubenville, Ohio.
He joined the American Foundry Equipment Co., the predecessor to Wheelabrator-Frye, in 1936. He served in many capacities in that companys machine development and engineering activities.
He recently served as engineering liaison co-ordinator for Wheelabrator-Frye international operation and in that capacity organized engineering conferences in Mishawaka and Schalfhausen, Switzerland in 1969, 1971 and 1973 for affiliate companies in England, Switzerland, Japan and South America.
He was working in the engineering department of the firm at the time of his death.
Mr. Nicolini married Hilda M. Wordinger on Nov. 24, 1949 in Phoenix AZ.
She survives along with a son Daniel A. of Mishawaka; two daughters, Miss Lora Nicolini of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Ray Swank of South Bend, and a sister. Mrs. Julius Birocci of Mishawaka.
Mr. Nicolini was a member of the DeAmicis Club and St. Andrews United Church of Christ.
Friend may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the DeVos Funeral Chapel where arrangements are being completed. Memorial contributions can be made to the memorial fund of St. Andrews Church.

Funeral services for Armando Nicolini, 61, of 1616 Division Street, who was dead on arrival Sunday morning at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following a six-month illness, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrews United Church of Christ with Rev. Dwayne Dollgener, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friend may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the DeVos Funeral Chapel, and from noon until time of the services Thursday in the church.
