Mr. Roy Lee Newman, 52, dear loved
one, who resided on West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Ind.,
passed away following an illness at 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov.
15, in his residence. Roy was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 4,
1948. Coming from Memphis, he had lived in South Bend for the
past 47 years. He had been employed by the Bendix Corporation as
a draft designer.
He is survived by two sisters, Annie Newman-Knott
of Tampa, Fla., and Dr. Joyce Newman-Geiger of Birmingham,
Ala.; one brother, Darnell Agnew of South Bend; seven
nieces, Ann Abdul-Hadi of South Bend, Kathy Scott
of Hinesville, Ga., Patricia Knott-Chapman of Virginia
Beach, Va., Renada Nelson, Helen Meadows, and
Relisa Butler, all of Tampa, Fla., and Vivian Knott-Batt
of Atlanta; four nephews, Robert Gamble and Larry Allen,
both of South Bend, Moses Knott of Warren Robbins Air
Force Base, Ga., and Dartagnan Newman of Los Angeles, Calif.; one
goddaughter, Diana Grundy Peterson of Dayton, Ohio; and
four cousins, O.C. Butler of Milwaukee, Wis., R.C. Pickens
of South Bend, with whom he resided, Albert Smith of
Jackson, Miss., and Janice Holloway of Aurora, Ill.; along
with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his
mother, Ionia Holmes-Newman; and by a sister, Susie Allen.
Funeral services for Mr. Newman will be held
at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, in Alford's Mortuary, where
friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will
follow at Highland Cemetery.
