SOUTH BEND - Brother Polycarp Newman, CSC, 86, of Dujarie House, Notre Dame, died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday in his residence after an illness. Brother Newman was assigned as a cook and farmer serving at Notre Dame, Rolling Prairie, Watertown, Wis., and Valatie, N.Y. He was on the staff of Holy Cross Brothers' Center from 1970 to 1988. He was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Winona, Minn., as Bronislaus Raymond Newman. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Chapel of Holy Cross Brothers' Center, Notre Dame. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Holy Cross Brothers' Center.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday in the brothers' center. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
