SOUTH BEND - Ruth L. Newberg, 85, of South Bend passed
away after a courageous battle with cancer at 8:15 a.m. Monday,
Sept. 8th, in the Southfield Village Nursing Center. Mrs. Newberg
was born on February 10, 1923, in Mishawaka, IN, and had resided
in the Michiana area her lifetime. On January 3, 1940, in
Plymouth, Indiana, as Ruth L. Hayn, she married Wayne H.
Newberg, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca E.
(Stanley) Nooe of Bradenton, FL; a son, Larry W. (Marleta)
Newberg of Kokomo, IN; five grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished; a sister,
Mildred Kruse of Pinellas Park, FL; and by two brothers, Paul
(Dorothy) Hayn of Plymouth, IN, and Don (Mary) Hayn of Argos, IN.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen O'Hara and
Mary Rutherford. Ruth was a homemaker and loved to travel,
gardening, church work, camping, and flying with her husband. She
was a true Christian and served the Lord faithfully. She will be
sadly missed by a loving family, her church family, and all who
had the opportunity to know this wonderful lady. Ruth was a
former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Plymouth and
South Bend Central United Methodist Church. She and her husband
were most recently members of Southlawn United Methodist Church.
Visitation hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m.
Thursday, Sept. 11, in Southlawn United Methodist Church, 60756
US 31 S., South Bend. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m.
Thursday in the church, with Pastors Joseph R. Baunock and Ron
Dixon officiating. Burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The
family request, PLEASE, in lieu of flowers, please make
all memorials to the Southlawn United Methodist Church. The
HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home
handled arrangements and extend its deepest sympathy and
heartfelt prayers to the Newberg family.
