SOUTH BEND - Steve C., ''Ben'' Nemeth,
87, formerly of Portage Avenue, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on
Friday, Sept. 25, in Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Ind. Mr.
Nemeth retired in 1969 from the Packaging Corporation of America,
which was formerly Empire Box. He was born on May 19, 1911, in
South Bend, Ind., to Michael and Anna Nemeth, who both preceded
him in death, along with a sister, Anne Vargo, who died on
July 16, 1980.
On Sept. 16, 1939, in South Bend, he married
Bernice C. Wituski, who also preceded him in death on Nov.
13, 1988. He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Nemeth of
Osceola, Ind.; two sons, Robert (Rosemary ''Toni'') Nemeth of
South Bend, and Dennis Nemeth of Pickerington, Ohio; five
grandchildren, Alan (Christine) Nemeth, Douglas Nemeth, Darren
Nemeth, Jeffery Nemeth and Kathleen (Kile) Carlson; a
great-grandchild, Nicole; and by two sisters, Theresa Elias
of South Bend and Mary Welch of Cypress, Calif. Mr. Nemeth
was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 58.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 28, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, William Black Medical Research Building, 640 W. 168th Street, New York, NY 10032-9982.
