SOUTH BEND -- Jane (Heckaman) Nemeth died on December 15th, 2006, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 75 years old. Born in Plymouth, IN, on May 3, 1931, to Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Heckaman, Jane and her family had lived in Plymouth, South Bend, Indiana, and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, as a child.
She was a graduate of South Bend Riley High School who later married Eugene B. Nemeth of South Bend. After raising their children, Jane began working at Sears, primarily in Elkhart, where she worked in customer service and credit departments and as a credit manager until her retirement in 1991. She lived most of her adult life in South Bend before moving to Westfield, IN, in 2004. Jane is survived by a sister, Phyllis (Bruce) Sill of Bonita Springs, FL; daughters, Cathy (Rick) Doolittle of Vandalia, MI, Dr. Jeanne Nemeth of Milwaukee, WI, and Suzanne (David) Pfenninger of Carmel, IN; son, J. Nemeth of South Bend; grandchildren, Ali and Austin Pfenninger of Carmel IN; and nephews, John, Scott and Dennis Sill.
Jane was a gentle soul and supportive friend and mother. She had a quick wit and was always ready with a laugh, and enjoyed listening to jazz, reading and watching movies. She was a quietly courageous lady who helped others through her patience and fortitude. She will be remembered and greatly missed.
