Ninetta M. Nellans

Ninetta M. Nellans, 63, of East Kern Road, South Bend, Ind., died after an extended illness at 10:42 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, in her home. Mrs. Nellans was born on May 26, 1935, in South Bend, to Bellardino and Giacinta (Polsoni) DeLuca, and was a lifelong area resident. She was preceded in death by her father, Bellardino DeLuca; and by her sister, Anna Stajkowski.

On Oct. 10, 1953, in Beaufort, S.C., she married Edward D. Nellans, who survives. She is also survived by her two daughters, Tina M. (Bradley J.) Wood of Noblesville, Ind., and Nancy A. (David K.) Watkins of Leaf River, Ill.; her mother, Giacinta DeLuca of South Bend; and by eight grandchildren. Mrs. Nellans retired in 1997 after 18 years with the Department of Labor, (BAT) as a secretary. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Notre Dame Girls Basketball Fast Breakers.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 South Ironwood Drive, where a Rosary service will be recited at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, in Saint Jude's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude's Catholic Church Building Fund or to Hospice of Saint Joseph County.
