SOUTH BEND - Ruth J. Myers, 89, formerly of Wagon Lane in
South Bend, passed away Sunday afternoon in Southfield Village.
She was born on March 28, 1919, in Granger, to the late Charles
and Algia (Flinn) Price. Ruth's father passed away
prior to her being born and was raised by her mother and her
stepfather, Harvey Hardy. On June 5, 1937, she married
Gerald Marvin Myers at Epworth United Methodist Church in South
Bend. They were married for 71 years prior to him passing away on
August 29, 2008. Ruth was an executive secretary for the
Department of Energy for many years before she retired. She was
known as "Mom Myers" by all her children's
friends. She loved to cook and was known for her famous
buttermilk cookies!! Ruth had been a member of Studebaker's
School Mother's Chorus and also was in the church choir at the
former Broadway Methodist Church. She had enjoyed traveling with
her husband. They traveled to all 50 states plus Canada,
Australia and New Zealand. They really enjoyed their visits to
Alaska. Ruth and her husband loved dancing at such places as the
Aragon Ball Room and Silver Palace to the music of big bands.
Ruth is survived by her loving family: her two daughters, Elaine Fleischauer
and her husband, Roger of Wakarusa, IN, and Susan Spradley
and her husband, Robert of Upland, CA; her two sons, Charles
"Dan" Myers and his wife, Mary of Granger, and Kenneth
Myers and his wife, Kay of Peoria, AZ; 10 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and her
two sisters, Erma Plumbeck of South Bend and Evadean Phend
of Elkhart. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers,
Jack and Richard Hardy.
Friends may visit with the family on
Thursday, September 18th, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Welsheimer
Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and
one hour prior to the start of services on Friday. Funeral
services will be 11 a.m. September 19th, with Rev. Vito Rulli
officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. In loving
