Ralph V. Myers, 70, of Stonehedge Lane, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, in St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Mr. Myers was born in Annapolis, Md., on Aug. 24, 1927, as the son of the late Frederic and Mary Frances (Moorhouse) Myers.
He graduated from Central High School in 1945, and from the University of Notre Dame in 1949.
On March 31, 1951, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, he married Ruth Marie Frisz. She preceded him in death on May 19, 1994.
On Nov. 25, 1995, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Ind., he married Margaret Szerencse, who survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Peggy (Larry) VanNevel of Mishawaka, Patricia (Bob) Martin of Hardy, Ariz. and Anne (Paul) Thurmond of Plattville, Wis.; four sons, Frederic (Patricia) Myers, David (Patricia) Myers, Jim (Laura) Myers all of South Bend and Edward (Shari) Myers of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Joyce Wickham of South Bend; one stepson, Thomas (Trudy) Szerencse of Elkhart, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lois Molson of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and by three brothers, Laurence Myers of Archer, Fla., Philip Myers of Silver Lake, Ohio and Paul Myers of Santa Ana, Calif.
He was a technical writer for several area corporations, including Bendix, Starcraft, Coachman and ITT.
A Medical Corps veteran (1947-1949), Mr. Myers was a current member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and choir, and a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and choir. He was a founding member of the South Bend Symphonic Choir, performed with the Presbyterian Players, the Michiana Male Chorus and IUSB Operas, was a former member of the Jaycees in South Bend and was past president of the Park Avenue Neighborhood Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in St. Bavo Catholic Church with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 1 to 7 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Wake prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
