Norman Alfred Myers, 83, of Mesick, Mich.,
died on Monday, Dec. 14, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse
City, Mich. He was born on Sept. 9, 1915, in Brems, Ind., the son
of Meda (Golding) and Henry U. Myers, and had been a Mesick
resident since moving there in 1975 from South Bend, Ind.
Mr. Myers had been a truck driver prior to
retirement, having been employed at Oliver Farm Equipment from
1935 to 1945, at Drewry's from 1945 to 1974, and at Indiana
Safety from 1974 to 1975, all of these companies in South Bend.
Mr. Myers was a veteran of World War II,
having served in the U. S. Navy; and was a member of Amvets Post
120 of Mesick, where he had served as commander for 4 years. He
was Amvet of the year in 1988 and was the bingo chairman for the
post for 13 years. He served as zoning administrator for
Springville Township for 3 years, and was the site coordinator
for the Emergency Food assistance program at the time of his
death.
He is survived by his wife, the former
Valora Pearl Emerick on Sept. 9, 1937, in South Bend;
three children, Gail (Roger L.) Young of South Bend,
Norman Dale (Theresa) Myers of South Bend and Jay Kurt Myers of
Mesick; seven grandchildren, Douglas Young, Dirk Young, Darci Kinmel,
Kristine Smith, Mandie Myers, Kathy Myers and Kelly (Gene)
Garren; eight great-grandchildren; and by two sisters,
Opal Cathcart of Valparaiso, Ind., and Louise (Russell) Teske
of Medaryville, Ind.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on
Saturday at Amvets Post #120 in Mesick, Mich. Memorial
contributions may be directed to The Myers Family Care Fund, c/o
the NBD Bank in Mesick. The family was served by the
Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City,
MI 49684.
