John Christian Myer Sr., age 99, of
Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, New Carlisle, Ind., died at
4:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, in the retirement community. He was
born on Feb. 28, 1901 in Terre Haute, Ind. to Albert J. and
Lillian M. (Schwartz) Myer. His parents preceded him in
death along with a son, John "Jack" Myer Jr.; a
daughter, Diana Elaine Ulbricht; and a stepson, Robert George Castle.
John served his country in the U.S. Navy
during World War I and after being honorably discharged, briefly
served his community as a South Bend police officer. He was a
former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Ancient Accepted
Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He retired in 1966 as an
Engineer with the Bendix Corporation.
On July 1, 1946 in Terre Haute, Ind., he
married Louise Elaine Smith, who survives along with two
stepsons, Ron and Jim Myer, both of California; four
granddaughters, Elaine (Rick) Stoner of Lakeville, Ind.,
Deborah (Robert) Johns and Shari (Lee) Baker, both
of South Bend and Pam Torma; two grandsons, Frederick Ulbricht
Jr. of Mishawaka and John Myer of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and
several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 in the Chapel of Hamilton Grove
Retirement Community, 31869 Chicago Trail, New Carlisle, 46552.
Following cremation, burial will take place in Highland Cemetery
in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamilton
Grove Retirement Community. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
