Sister M. Peter Murphy CSC, 88, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the convent. She was born May 31, 1900 in Germantown, Pa. as Helen Marie Murphy, and she entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s’ on May 22, 1924, coming from Alexandria, Va. She was received as a novice Jan. 6, 1925, and professed her vows on Jan. 26, 1927. There are no survivors. She was assigned to teaching and served in elementary schools from 1926 to 1952, including St. Joseph Grade School and Holy Cross Scholl, both in South Bend, and St. Mary’s Preparatory Department at Notre Dame. Other teaching assignments were in Baltimore; Boise, Idaho; Chicago; East Chicago; Elkhart; Anderson, Ind. and Michigan City. She was then assigned to housekeeping at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend from 1952 to 1969 and from 1969 to 1983 served in Pastoral Care as patient visitor.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday in St. Mary’s Convent, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
