Sister M. Benigna Murphy CSC

A requiem mass was offered in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto on the St. Mary’s campus today for Sister M. Benigna CSC, 74, who died at Saint Mary’s Convent Sunday after a prolonged illness. Burial was in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Born Mary Emily Murphy in Boston in 1889, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1912, receiving the habit and making her final profession of vows that same year. During her community life, she was assigned to Boise, Idaho; Harvard, Ill.; New York City; and Washington DC.
