SOUTH BEND - James M. Murphy, 49, of Crystal Lake,
Illinois, formerly of South Bend, passed away Friday evening,
April 20, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident in
Crystal Lake. Jim was born on September 28, 1957, in South Bend,
the third child of Mary Ann and Edward J. Murphy. Jim graduated
from Marian High School in Mishawaka in 1976, where he was named
a Catholic All-American in football and started for two of
Marian's state championship football teams. He attended St.
Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, on an athletic
scholarship and graduated with an accounting degree in 1980.
Jim married the former Kimberly Jabon
on February 25, 1978. They had lived in Crystal Lake since 1982.
Jim and Kim are the proud parents of three sons, Ryan, Jason and
Kevin. Jim was a parishioner at St. Thomas Catholic Church in
Crystal Lake. Jim, a CPA, was employed with the accounting firm
of McGladrey & Pullen, and was formerly the president of
Northern Federal Savings Bank, which later became part of Deer
Bank Corp.
Jim is survived by his wife of 29 years,
Kim, and their three sons, Ryan, Jason and Kevin. He is also
survived by his mother, Mary Ann of Osceola; two sisters, Ann
(Daniel) Manion and Mary (Michael) Hamann, both of
South Bend; and six brothers, Martin (Jane), John, Thomas
(Barbara), Patrick (Tonia), Michael (Cheryl) and Stephen (Tina),
all of the South Bend area. Jim was preceded in death by his
father, Professor Edward J. Murphy, and his brother, Peter.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, from
3 to 9 p.m. (CDT) at Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home, 500 West
Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Thursday, April 26, at 11 a.m. (CDT) in St.
Thomas Catholic Church, 471 West Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
