William Gregory Mueller, 57, of
Eaglewood Drive, Granger, Ind., passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, in
Noblesville, Ind. Mr. Mueller was a professor at Indiana
University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1947, in South Bend,
Ind., to Jack Landis Mueller and Rosemary (Erler) Mueller Ward,
and lived in this area most of his life. He was preceded in death
by his father in 2003.
Greg is survived by his son, Greg Mueller II
of South Bend; his mother, Rosemary (Jerry) Ward of Granger; a
stepdaughter, Rachel Darr of Washington, D.C.; a sister,
Judy (Larry) Shaw of Elkhart, Ind.; a stepsister, Lacey
Mueller of Granger; two brothers, Christopher (Evelyn) Mueller of
Warsaw, Ind., and Jack (Korina) Mueller of Granger; and a
stepbrother, Landis Mueller of Granger.
Mr. Mueller graduated from John Adams High
School, where he was selected as a national finalist in the
Westinghouse Science Fair for his engineering of a heart and lung
machine. He received a bachelor of science degree in philosophy
and his master's degree in hospital administration from Indiana
University. Greg had a lifelong passion for fencing. He captained
the Indiana University fencing team and was also an assistant
fencing coach at the University of Notre Dame. His love of
fencing took him to Europe to compete for the United States Army
on the U.S. Pentathalon team.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial
gathering in the home of Martyn and Kathleen Wills from 11 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made in Greg's memory to S.O.S. Foundation at
Madison Center, 403 E. Madison St., South Bend, IN 46617. S.O.S.
Foundation assists victims of assault and domestic violence.
Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is assisting the
family with arrangements.
