MISHAWAKA - Clyde Motts, 99, formerly of Mishawaka, died
Sunday February 17, 2008 in Asta Care of Elgin, IL. Clyde was
born August 9, 1908, in Elkhart to Jacob & Sylvia (Schmeltz)
Motts who preceded him in death. Surviving family members are
son, John K. Motts; brother, George Motts; and several nieces and
nephews. Also surviving are several cousins. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Jennie.
Clyde served his country with the Air Force
during World War II in the Central Pacific and Kwajalein Island
and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a signal corpsman. He
graduated from Manchester College and received a Masters Degree
from Highland University in New Mexico. He taught Science for
many years at Penn High School retiring in 1973. Clyde was a
member of First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka, VFW Post
#360, AARP, Retired Teachers Association and was a founding
member of Indiana Science Teachers Association which awards the
Clyde Motts Award for Innovative High School Science Teaching.
A visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m.
Saturday February 23, 2008, in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main
St., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor
Ron Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill
Memorial Gardens, Veterans' section, Osceola. Memorials may be
made to Mishawaka First United Methodist Church or the Indiana
Science Teachers Association for the Clyde Motts Scholarship.
