SOUTH BEND - Betty L. Morris, 83, of South Bend passed
away Wednesday morning February 27, 2008 in Hospice House. Born
December 13, 1924, in South Bend to the late Achille and Beulah (Kelley)
VanDeWalle. Besides her parents, she was preceded by a
daughter, Carol Morris, son, Gary Morris, and her sister Doris Schwartz.
On January 26, 1946 in First Christian
Church she married James B.. Morris who died in 2006. Surviving
are her children Ruth (Mark) Beam and Richard (Barbara)
Morris of South Bend; seven grand children and seven great grand
children; sister-in-law, Maggie Morris of South Bend; and a
sister, Frances (Jack) Harris of Venice, FL. Betty worked
for Enyart Electric Co. for 15 years before retiring. She was a
longtime member of First Christian Church of South Bend and was
very active in the church especially in their Funeral Lunch
program. Mrs. Morris was in the first graduating class of Adams
High School. She belonged to the Women's Bowling Association and
was a member of the Hall of Fame of the W.B.A. and won the City
and State championships. She was an avid baker and every one who
had her Christmas cookies never forgot them. She especially
enjoyed growing Peonies, which all her family have plants from
her home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday March 3, 2008 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home 521 N. William St. with Rev. Owen A. Cayton officiating and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Hospice House, or The American Cancer Society or Healthwin Hospital.
