Paul J. Morin,
73, of Calhoun Street, in Mishawaka, died Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Overlake
Hospital in Seattle, Wash., after a brief illness.
Paul was born on
May 3, 1923 in Cle Elum, Wash., to Lewis John and Kathryn A. (Byrne) Morin, who
preceded him in death. On Nov. 11, 1950, in St. Monica Chruch, Mishawaka, Paul
married the former Mary Lou Philion, who survives.
Also surviving
are two sons, Paul Morin, Jr. of Portland, Ore. and Robert Morin of Richmond,
Va.; six daughters, Monica Toth of Hinsdale, Ill., Michele Ahern of South Bend,
Maureen Ni of Woodinville, Wash., Christine Sayers of Seattle, Wash., Kathleen
Brennan of Elmhurst, Ill. and Bridget Salmick of Portland, Ore.; a sister,
Claire Lucille Smith of Seattle, Wash; and three grandchildren, Lily Ahern of
South Bend and Carolyn and Annalise Toth of Hinsdale, Ill.
Paul was preceded
in death by a daughter, Denise Rose Morin in 1967; four brothers, Leo Carroll,
Robert Lewis, John Lawrence, and William Francis Morin; five sisters, Marjorie
Elizabeth, Helen Claire, Rosemary Theresa, Jeanne Louise, and Anne Kathryn
Morin; and a grandson, Robert Morin, Jr.
A funeral mass
will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., in St. Monica Catholic Church in
Mishawaka. Visitation for friends will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m, today, at
the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where there will be a wake
service at 3:30 p.m, today. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the
services at the church. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery
in Mish-awaka.
Paul retired from
the Whitehall Laboratories after 28 years in 1988. He attended the University
of Notre Dame and received a Bachelors of Arts degree in English in 1951. He
earned his Masters degree in English in 1960. He taught at the University for
five years. Paul volunteered and served in the U.S. Army as a member of the
70th Tank Battalion during World War II. He was injured during the Battle of
the Bulge in January of 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably
discharged as a Sergeant. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church where
he as actively involved in numerous activities, most recently as a Eucharistic
Minister.
