Francis J. Mootz

Francis J. “Frank” Mootz, 84, of 1121 Leeper Ave. died at 2:45 a.m. today in his home. Mr. Mootz retired in 1969 as an executive in management for Reilly Tar and Chemical Co., Indianapolis, after 40 years of service.

 

He was born July 9, 1904 in Indianapolis and had lived in South Bend for 16 years, coming from Indianapolis.

 

In 1937 he married Jeanne O’Connell. She died in 1962. On June 17, 1972 he married Dr. Agatha Wilhelm, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Jeanne McKeen of St. Louis and Sheila Mootz of Indianapolis; three step-daughters, Christine Lauber and Dr. Elizabeth Lauber, both of South Bend, and Martha Griggs of Wilmette, Ill; a son Francis “Pete” Jr. of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four sisters, Cecelia Mootz and Catherine Mazelin, both of Indianapolis, Sister Mary Mootz, OSF, of Oldenburg, Ind., and Clara VanFleet of Athens, Ga.

 

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis,

 

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Hickey Funeral Home Cleveland Road Chapel.

 

Mr. Mootz was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1927 and a doctorate in 1930. He was a member of American Chemical Society and American Society of Engineers.
