SOUTH BEND - R.E. Moore, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 4th, in
South Bend, Indiana. He is survived by his ex-wife, Ocie Mae Cook-Moore
of Oxford, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Bob Cook of South Bend; a
son, Edward James Moore of South Bend; stepsons, Sylvester
Moore-Cook of South Bend and Patrick Moore of Austin, Texas,
Dolly Marie Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana; a niece, Anita Pledger;
a nephew, Walter Steele; several great-nieces; and special
friends, Richard Brown, Troy Williams, Michael Clark,
Michael White, Michael Verse, Tammy Kerr,
Janice Seward, Theresa Anderson, Danny Anderson and
Tasha Anderson, all of South Bend. R.E. was born in Sunflower,
Mississippi, and had two brothers and one sister, and attended
school at Olive Grove School in Wyatt, Missouri. He also played
semi-pro baseball in the Negro League in Chicago. He loved to
play Spades, go fishing, hunting, and tell jokes. He was also a
lifelong Cubs fan. He worked for 30 years as a laborer for Union
Local 645 until he retired in 1998. He served proudly in World
War II between 1943 and 1946 in the Battle of Normandy and was
awarded two Bronze Star medals and a Good Conduct medal.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 13th, in Alford's Mortuary, with a memorial service
following at 3 p.m.
