J. Moon
March 23, 1921 - April 20, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Barbara J. Moon, 89, passed away peacefully on
Tuesday morning, April 20, 2010, in her home. Mrs. Moon was born
on March 23, 1921, in Stuart, Iowa, the youngest of nine children
to Fred E. and Cora (Rinehart) Ball. She was preceded in death by
her four brothers and four sisters. On September 9, 1944, she
married Wayne E. Moon in Stuart, Iowa. After his return from
serving overseas, they moved to South Bend. Wayne died October 8,
1969. Barbara attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the
University of Northern Iowa), then worked as a teletype operator
during World War II. She later worked as a registrar at Central
High School and as a secretary at Wheelabrator. After retiring
from Wheelabrator, she worked 10 years for Dr. Robert Dodd.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rosemary (John) Gordon of
Memphis, TN; her son, Thomas (Caryl) Moon of Mishawaka; three
granddaughters, Kathryn (Charles) Walker of Olive Branch, MS,
Karen (Richard) McAdams of Bolivar, PA, and Amelia (Matthew) Kuhn
of Waldron, IN; six great-grandchildren, Kendall Walker, Hannah
McAdams, Jackson Kuhn, Caitlyn Walker, Austin Walker and Jacob
McAdams. Barbara was a former member of Ridgedale Presbyterian
Church where she served as trustee, deacon and choir member. In
2003 she transferred membership to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of P.E.O. for 66 years. She was also a volunteer
at the Budget Corner. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m.
on Friday, April 23, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger
Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. James B.
Miller, pastor of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:00-1:00 Friday in the
funeral home. Contributions in memory of Barbara J. Moon may be
made to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Frances Street,
South Bend, IN 46617; or to the American
Cancer Society , 601 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
