Frances J. Modjeska, 66, of Miller's
Merry Manor, New Carlisle, Ind., passed away on Friday, April 4,
in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. Frances was born on March
27, 1937, in New Carlisle, to Frank F. Modjeska Sr. and the late
Regina (Wozniak) Modjeska and was a lifelong area
resident.
She is survived by five sisters, Dorothy Loree
of New Carlisle, Mary (Robert) Andrews of Chicago, Ill.,
and Elizabeth (John) Miller, Josephine Carroll and
Carol Weber, all of New Carlisle; two brothers, Frank
(Lynn) Modjeska Jr. of New Carlisle and Edward (Lola) Modjeska of
LaPorte, Ind.; and by several nieces and nephews. Along with her
mother, Frances was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas
Modjeska, who died in infancy. Miss Modjeska graduated from New
Carlisle High School in 1955. She was employed from 1975 to 2000
at Easy Heat, Inc. in New Carlisle before retiring in 2000 due to
illness. Miss Modjeska was baptized and confirmed at St. John
Kanty Catholic Church, Rolling Prairie, Ind. She was a
parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, New
Carlisle; a member of the American Legion #297 Auxiliary of New
Carlisle; and the Hudson Modern Homemakers Extension Club, later
known as LaPorte County Extension Homemakers.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, April 9, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert
St., New Carlisle, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 9
a.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Frances at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday, April 9, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with burial
to follow at New Carlisle Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In
memory of Frances Modjeska, donations may be made to the Indiana
Organ Procurement Organization, 429 N. Pennsylvania Street, Suite
