Edwin J. Mittleman Nov. 6, 1931 - Feb. 10,

MISHAWAKA - Edwin J. Mittleman, 77, was born to this life on
November 6, 1931, in Mishawaka, to Agnes (Barbier) and Edwin J.
Mittleman. He graduated from the former Central Catholic High
School and attended St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. He
faithfully served in the United States Army and was stationed in
Korea. He was employed at Dodge-Reliance and retired after 31
years. On February 10, 2009, Edwin left behind his loving wife,
Mary Jane (VanHoecke) Mittleman of 50 years. They were married on
May 11, 1957, in St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Also
surviving are three children, Michael (Debra) Mittleman, Susan
(Joseph) Malcom and Karen Mittleman; three grandchildren, Melissa
(Rob) Jackson, Nathan Mittleman and Rebecca Malcom; and three
step-grandchildren, Brent (Heather) Plummer, Chad (Megan) Plummer
and Breanna Konopinski; and three step-great-grandchildren,
Mason, Ryan and Brayden Plummer. Also surviving are six cousins,
Mary Hurd, Betty Owing, Rita Hilt, Margie Burnett, Kay Sueid and
Maryanne Hanchosky; three sisters-in-law, Vicky Vanderbeke, Elsie
Popielski and Dorothy Sabade; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a sister-in-law,
Lucy Hillaert. Edwin was a faithful and dedicated member of Queen
of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka where he had served as an
usher, Eucharistic minister and a member of the Holy Name
Society. He was also a member of VFW Post 360, the BK Club and
Dodge Retirees Club. As an avid fan, Ed served as an usher for
Notre Dame football games for many years. He enjoyed sports,
dancing, and movies, and was very fond of his monthly card club.
Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m.,
on Friday, Feb. 13th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th
Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday,
Feb. 14th, at 9:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior in Queen
of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka. Burial
with military rites conducted by VFW Post 360/American Legion
burial team will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family
wishes to thank the care staff of Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center and Our Lady of Peace Hospital. Contributions may be made
to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's
