SOUTH BEND - Fred I. Mitchell, 45, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6. Fred was born on March 3, 1962, in Sheridan, IN, to Fred and Dorothea (Haake) Mitchell Jr. He met his wife, Darlene (Laskowski) on Friday, November 13, 1987, and have been best friends ever since. They married on October 26, 1991. She survives along with their two children, Sarah M. Mitchell, age 7, and Travis J. Mitchell, age 9; his parents, Fred and Dorothea of Edwardsburg; four sisters, Doran DeCola of Tennessee, Helen Strock of Granger, Robin (Joe) Thayer of Niles and Wendy Mitchell of Edwardsburg; four brothers, Christopher (Beth) Mitchell of Osceola, James (Yvonne) Mitchell of Walkerton, Walter Mitchell of Niles and John (Chrissy) Mitchell of South Bend; two sisters-in-law, Roberta (Mike) Tice of South Bend and Debby (Mike) Sherman of South Bend; two brothers-in-law, Joe (Rose) Laskowski and John (Angie) Laskowski, both of South Bend; a host of nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Amanda Mitchell. He worked as a machinist for Adapto Inc., and was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. He served in the United States Navy.

A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Cremation with interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Notre Dame Federal Credit Union office, "The Fred Mitchell Memorial Fund."
