Mr. Louis C. Minnes, 77, residing on Portage Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, in his home.
Mr. Minnes retired from the South Bend Police Department following 22 years of service, and also retired from the St. Joseph County Welfare Department, after 22 years of service, where he served as an investigator.
He was born on July 6, 1920, in Ligonier, Ind., to the late Louis and Athelienne (Talley) Minnes, and had lived in South Bend most of his life.
On Sept. 21, 1940, in South Bend, he married Patricia J. Moore, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Judith McLeod of Dunwoody, Ga.; two sons, Dr. Luke Minnes of Lakewood, Ohio, and Phillip Minnes of South Bend; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Anna Saboski of South Bend.
Mr. Minnes was a member of the Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, South Bend Lodge No. 294, Free and Accepted Masons and Avalon Grotto. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Services for Mr. Minnes will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincolnway West, South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to services on Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue.
Contributions in Mr. Minnes's memory may be made to the church or to the Humanitarian Fund of Avalon Grotto.
