Mary Jane Mills, 88, of South Bend, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday, November 21, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Mary Jane was born January 4, 1917, in Winchester, Ind., to the late Burley and Alice (Pegg) Arnett.

On May 29, 1934, in South Bend, Mary Jane married Ira Glenn Mills, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Young and Annabelle Vaniman; and one great-granddaughter, Amber Noel. Mary Jane is survived by her two sons, Jerry N. (Carol) Mills of South Bend and Charles A. and his former spouse (Lou Ann) of Dewitt, Michigan; two sisters, Margaret (Harold) Schneider of South Bend and Sarah (Kenneth) Clements of Williamsburg, Ind.; one brother, Charles J. (Pauline) Arnett of Greenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Greg (Laurie) of Granger, Ind., Brian (Sandy) Mills of South Bend, Kevin (Lori) Mills of South Bend and Paul (Erika) Mills of Lansing, Michigan; and by 10 great-grandchildren, Cori, Dalton, Hunter, Dylan, Nick, Katie, Troy, Kristina, Taylor and Jacob.

Mary Jane retired from Robertson's department store where she worked as a clerk for several years. She was a former member of the clerks luncheon club, and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mary Jane enjoyed knitting, sewing, and making many of her own clothing. She was also a tender, loving and sharing mother, grandmother and sister. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 25, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Ronald Tripi, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Friday in the funeral home.
