SOUTH BEND - Jack Lee Mills, 79, residing in South Bend,
passed away at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in
Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born October 1, 1928, in
Mishawaka, IN, to Jay and Stella L. (Gilliland) Mills, and
had been a lifelong resident of this community. He retired as an
engineer with T.R. Arnold & Associates in Elkhart. He proudly
served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Jack
received his civil engineering degree and mechanical engineering
degree from Tri-State University. Mr. Mills is survived by his
daughter, Linda Toombs, and her husband, Robert of
Shawnee, Kansas; his son, James Mills, and his wife, Judith of
Indianapolis. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Riley and
Ben Toombs, Ian and Seth Mills; a sister, Lois Mills of
Mishawaka; and a brother, David Runnels, and his wife,
Connie of Osceola.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Sept.
22, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South
Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. today in
the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Jack L. Mills may be
made to The Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road,
Mishawaka, IN 46545.
