SOUTH BEND - Vera Miller, 97, passed away at Ironwood Health and
Rehab. Vera was born in Parker, South Dakota, in 1912. Her
parents were Frank Joseph Fritz (1887-1960) and Vera Irene
Stevens (1890-1978). About 1913 her family moved to Alberta,
Canada. Because of her mother's poor health, they were told to
move to New Mexico. In 1915, they moved to Raton, New Mexico,
where Vera and her brother Leonard grew up. After graduation from
Raton High School, she attended beauty college in Denver and
started working as a beautician. In 1937 she moved to Santa Fe,
New Mexico, where she met and married Glen Berlin Littleton
(1912-1975). They had three children, one of whom lived only six
hours. After Glen's death, she took a trip to the Holy Land where
she met Oscar Edwin Miller (1897-1989) of San Antonio. They were
married in 1978 and she moved to San Antonio, Texas. In 2002 she
moved to South Bend, Indiana, to be nearer her daughter. Vera was
a beautician for over 50 years. She was a member of the United
Methodist Church in Santa Fe and later in San Antonio. She was an
amateur artist and won three awards from a senior citizen art
contest in Texas. She loved to grow flowers and had a large
flower garden in Santa Fe. Vera is survived by two children:
Richard (Judi) Littleton who lives in Austin, Texas, and Ann
Littleton, who lives in South Bend. She has two grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren. Her ashes will be interred at the
National Cemetery in Santa Fe. There will be a memorial service
for the family in June. Contributions in Vera's memory may be
made to Fairview Cemetery Preservation Association, PO Box 5958,
Santa Fe, New Mexico 87502. McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel is
