Helen Miller, 88, of Houston, Texas,
formerly of South Bend, died Sunday May 27, 2001, in the Garden
Terrace Nursing Home, Houston, Texas. Helen was born in South
Bend on August 14, 1912, to Cecil E. and Verna (Hay)
Bennett.
On February 14, 1942, in South Bend as Helen
Bennett she married Leonard W. Miller who died March 30,
1977. Surviving is her son, Richard Alan Miller of Houston,
Texas; her sister, Mary Bennett of South Bend; a sister-in-law,
Eleanor Halter of South Bend; and her cousins David and
Carolyn Hay of Granger, Indiana, and Priscilla Hay of South Bend.
For most of her life Helen resided in South
Bend, then after the death of her husband moved to Clearwater,
Florida and in 1991 moved to The Woodlands, Texas. Helen was a
1930 graduate of Central High School, attended University of Iowa
in Iowa City, Iowa, and received her BA degree from Lincoln
memorial University, Cumberland Gap, Kentucky. For many years,
Helen was a chemist for the Furnas Ice Cream Company, and Midwest
Producers Creamery in South Bend. Helen was a lifelong choir
member and avid golfer, a former member of Grace United Methodist
Church, Morris Park Country Club and Countryside Country Club,
Clearwater, Florida.
Friends may visit with her family Friday
June 1, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home,
located at Jefferson and Ironwood. Funeral services will be
Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home, burial will follow in
Southlawn Cemetery. Rev. Amy Covington of Grace United Methodist
Church is officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
can be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Northern Indiana
