OSCEOLA - John H. Miles, 82, died at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday, January
6, in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on February 11, 1927,
in Mishawaka, IN, to the late John O. and Anna (Deak) Miles. John
was an Independent Insurance Agent in Osceola for 38 years. He
was the owner of the John H. Miles Insurance Agency from
1956-1983. John graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1945. He
was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Osceola Lions Club,
Osceola American Legion Post #308, Mishawaka Masonic Lodge #130
F. & A.M. and attended the Jamestown United Methodist Church.
While in the service John and his friend, Ken Donnely entertained
the troops at the US Army Base in Alexandria, Virginia. John was
a magician and enjoyed doing magic shows. He directed the Lions
Club Variety Shows and served on the St. Joseph County Pageant
for two years. He was an amateur song and dance man. John enjoyed
watching old John Wayne movies, Bob Hope Road movies and fishing.
He was one of the founding board members of the Osceola
Appreciation Day's festival and a member of the Osceola Business
Association. John was an avid Notre Dame and I.U. fan. On
November 11, 1948 in Osceola United Methodist Church, John
married Clarice S. Kindig. She survives along with three sons,
Martin Alan (Vicki) Miles of South Bend, Mitchell Scott (Judy)
Miles of Warren, MI, and Michael John (Edward Cukrowice) Miles of
Florida; daughter, Michele Ann (Dale) Seely of Elkhart; special
"2nd daughter", Tami Trevin-Emerson of California; nine
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Paul Lewis
(Marilyn) Miles of Elkhart. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday,
January 11, 2010 in Jamestown United Methodist Church, 59218 C.R.
3 South, Elkhart, IN 46517, with Rev. Thomas Thews and Rev. Paul
Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Olive (East) Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in Zimmerman-Inman
Funeral Home, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the church.
