SOUTH BEND - Marie A. "Kata" Mezzei, 88, passed away at 11:32 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, in the Saint Joseph Regional Med Center. Marie was born on May 11, 1920, in South Bend, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Fulop) Kovacsics. Marie was a retired housekeeper of St. John the Baptist Church in Tipton, IN. She was also inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Tipton. After living in Tipton, she returned to South Bend and had lived the last 13 years with her niece, Kathy Jachimiak. Surviving are three nieces, Lois Steinke, Joan Kovach and Kathy Jachimiak, all of South Bend; two nephews, Richard Kovach and Charles Kovach, both of South Bend; three great-nieces, Heather Steinke, Stephanie Steinke and Gena Steinke; and two great-nephews, Justin Jachimiak and Mike Steinke. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Rose Peare; and by four brothers, Joseph Kovach, Louie Kovacsics, Steve Kovacsics and Alex Kovacsics.
