SOUTH BEND - William H. Meyer Jr., 81, of South Bend died at 9:30
p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in his residence following a
lengthy illness. Mr. Meyer was born May 18, 1928, in South Bend
to the late William H. and Henrietta C. (Boettcher) Meyer and was
a lifetime area resident. On January 30, 1960 in South Bend he
married Betty L. Farner who survives. Also surviving are three
sons, Thomas W. Meyer of Mishawaka, IN, Douglas R. (Sally
Fiore-Meyer) Meyer of Zionsville, IN, and Jeffrey F. (Joy) Meyer
of South Elgin, IL; nine grandchildren, Morgan M., Aubrey A.,
Lauren M., Mitchell D., Kyle J., Kate A., and Eric W. Meyer and
Dominic W. and Mia A. Fiore; his sister, Ruth Wagoner of St.
Peter, MN; and one brother, Donald E. Meyer of New Braunsfels,
TX. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Meyer. Bill
retired in 1997 from Smith-Barney as a financial consultant. He
had also been employed for many years with the former
Thomson-McKinnon and Prudential Securities. He was a former
member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary
Club of South Bend. He was a graduate of Indiana University and
affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity. He was a
member of the former South Bend Lodge 294 F & AM, Scottish
Rite Valley of South Bend, Orak Shrine Temple, Michigan City, IN,
and served on the board of directors and was a founding member of
Indiana Opera North. Dad was an avid tennis player and sun
bather. He was also well known among family members for his
ability to remove paint and kill Chinese beetles. He claimed on
numerous occasions that his hook shot won many an IU basketball
game. Dad was also a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. The apples
of his eye were his grandkids who he adored unequivocally. The
family will receive friends on Saturday, December 19th in the
Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. from 2 until 5
p.m. Cremation will take place at Welsheimer Crematory. Memorial

House, or the American
