GRANGER - Roland Edwin Meyer, 101, of Bumwood Road,
Granger, formerly of Grape Road, died Sunday morning in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center. Roland retired in 1971 from the
Bendix Brake Division after 30 years. He was born Nov. 14, 1906,
in South Bend, to Arthur and Ethel (Barnhart) Meyer.
On October 15, 1927, in South Bend, he
married Gladys N. Gill, who died February 22, 1991. A daughter,
Betty Summerville, granddaughter, Judy, his sister, Mabel Nielson,
and his brother, Howard, preceded him in death. Survivors include
two sons, Donald E. (Ardis) Meyer of Granger, Leonard E. (Martha)
Meyer of Sandy, UH; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Grace Thomas of Mishawaka. Roland was a member of
First Seventh-day Adventist Church of South Bend and United Auto
Workers Local 9.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7,
in the HICKEY Funeral Homes, 17131 Cleveland Road (between
Ironwood and Grape Roads), with Pastors Don Inglish and Throstur
Thordarson officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 6, and one hour before services in the funeral
home. Memorials may be made to the South Bend Junior Academy
