OSCEOLA - Elmer Lewis Merrill, 77, of Osceola, Indiana,
passed away on Saturday, August 30, in the Cardinal Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. He was born on November 10,
1930, in South Bend, to the late Gladys (Gorny) and Harold
Merrill. On February 11, 1961, in South Bend, he married Mary A. Gordon,
who preceded him in death on July 11, 2003. Mr. Merrill was also
preceded in death by a brother, Richard Merrill, who was of
Elkhart. Surviving Mr. Merrill are a sister, Norma (Sherman) Wenrick
of Alexandria, Kentucky; two nephews, Lynn and Gary Wenrick; and
a niece, Dawn Merrill. Mr. Merrill was a factory worker and had
worked at Rockwell Standard, Miles and Reese Products. He also
was a delivery driver for the South Bend Tribune and sold Amway
for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army,
serving in the Korean War, and had played bass in a local band
many years ago. He loved to bowl and he dearly loved his two
dogs, Pepsi and Mackie. He enjoyed camping locally and had a park
model at Jellystone Campground in Plymouth, Indiana.
Services for Mr. Merrill will be at 10 a.m.
Thursday, September 4, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home
North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call
from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Ed Erskin will conduct the
services. Military rites will be held at the cemetery and
entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery
Mausoleum, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka,
IN 46545.
