Brother Theogene Merline CSC, 87, who
resided at Dujarie House at the Holy Cross Brothers Center,
University of Notre Dame, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday in St.
Joseph Hospital, South Bend after a brief illness. He was
formerly postmaster at Notre Dame. Born on Sept. 18, 1883 in
Oconto, Wis., as Frederick Joseph Merline, he received the habit
of the Brothers of Holy Cross on Aug. 15, 1913. He made his final
profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1916. After attending Notre Dame
for two years he began working at the Post Office in 1916. On
Jan. 1, 1922 he was appointed postmaster, a position which he
held until his retirement in 1945.
Services will be held at 3:30Friday in the
Holy Cross Brothers Center Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph
Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the Holy Cross
Brothers Center.
