MISHAWAKA - Sister M. Theonita Mergens, OSF, 97, of Our Lady of Angels Convent, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in her residence. Sister M. Theonita was born Oct. 22, 1898, in St. Paul, Minn., as Irene Mergens. She entered the convent July 4, 1915, and received her Franciscan habit on June 29, 1916. She was assigned to teaching in schools in Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Michigan and retired to Our Lady of Angels in 1976. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. A wake will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the convent chapel. Thallmer-Goethals Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
