MISHAWAKA - Gary J. Meixel, 57, of Mishawaka passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Gary was born on May 8, 1951 in Mishawaka, to Robert T. & Charlotte (Meidel) Meixel. Gary married the former Susan Davidson on June 20, 1970 in Mishawaka. Gary & Sue shared thirty- eight years of marriage to each other. Gary is survived by his wife Sue and their three children, Jamie Meixel, Denise (Brian) Shelton and James Meixel, all from Mishawaka. Gary is also survived by his father Robert and two sisters, Janice M. (Gene) Sherry of South Bend, Jeanne A. (Glen) Bevis of Mishawaka, and one brother Dennis L. (Doris) Meixel of Mishawaka. Gary was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Courtney, Skylar, Madison, Aryana and Kryslyn. His mother Charlotte, who died on June 15, 1988, a brother Robert T Meixel II who died on January 9, 1992, preceded Gary in death. Gary served his country in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge in 1973. Gary was employed for twenty-five years as a Machinist at the Gunite Factory in Elkhart. Gary was an avid Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football fan. He enjoyed the adventures of the St. Joseph River.
