MISHAWAKA - David J. Meixel, 66, passed away after a brief
illness on Friday, April 11, 2008, in his residence surrounded by
his family. David was born on October 25, 1941, in Mishawaka, as
the son of Arnold J. and Dorothy J. (Lundy) Meixel. His
father Arnold preceded him in death.
On April 20, 1963, in St. Bavo Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, he was joined in marriage with the former
Lorraine Vaerewick. Surviving are his loving wife of
almost 45 years, Lorraine; his mother, Dorothy Lundry of LaPorte;
a daughter, Jean (Kevin) Meade of Osceola; grandson, Jacob
Molloy, who was "Papa's Best Bud"; a sister,
Cheryl (Steve) Reinhart of LaPorte; and an uncle, Tesla
Lundry of South Bend.
David was a veteran of the United States
Navy where he served from 1961 to 1965. From 1965 to 1978 he
worked for Wells Electronics and from 1978 to 2008 he was
Operations Manager for Syscon International. He was a member of
St. Bavo Catholic Church, where he was a former member of the
Athletic Association, the BK Club, and American Legion Post 303
where he was past commander. He was a Mishawaka High School
alumni and a member of the U.S.S. Forrestal Association. David
enjoyed his spring fishing trips with the guys to Big Fish Lake
and his fishing trips to Minnesota in August with his wife.
Friday afternoons you could find Dave at the BK Club visiting
with his friends. Notre Dame football was a great time for Dave
to tailgate with family and friends before going to the game. He
especially enjoyed the game between ND and the Naval Academy. He
would wear his ND shirt and his U.S.S. Forrestal hat. That day
his team never lost.
Visitation for family and friends will be
from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the Hahn Funeral
Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where wake prayers will be at
6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on
Tuesday, April 15, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with
Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview
Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's
name to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111
