John E. Meissner, 74, of South Washington
Street, Wakarusa, and formerly of Mishawaka, died on January 1,
2005, in Miller's Merry Manor in Wakarusa. John was born December
21, 1930, in Buffalo, New York, to Edward and Ann (Gulshen)
Meissner. He graduated from Plymouth High School and attended
Indiana University in South Bend. John served his country in the
U.S. Air Force from 1951 until being honorably discharged in
1959.
He married Lois Beutter on November 24,
1962, in South Bend. The family moved from Mishawaka to Wakarusa
in 1977. John's surviving family includes his wife, Lois; two
sons, Paul John and Ann Marie Meissner of New York, and Mark John
Meissner of Washington, D.C., and two identical twin
granddaughters, Paula Jane and Angela Marie Meissner;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Zuella Beutter,
and Dee and Donald Schlarb; uncle and aunt, Albert and Esther
Beutter; nephews and nieces, Andy (Jan) Beutter, Tom (Mary Beth)
Beutter, John Beutter, Beth (Andy) Borowski, Phil (Jody) Schlarb,
Peggy (Bob) Thornton, Jeanne (Jeff) Beers; great-nephews and
nieces, Sarah Beutter, Erin Beutter, Robert Beutter, Abigail
Beutter, Emily Beutter, David Beutter, Morgan Schlarb, Amanda
Schlarb, Hailey Thornton, Joe Borowski, Jillian Borowski, Jenna
Borowski, Jared Beers and Julie Beers. He was preceded in death
by his parents, and an infant son, born in November 1971.
John was Business Administrator for X-Ray
Consultants, Inc., of South Bend for 25 years. Prior to joining
X-Ray Consultants, he was an engineering buyer for Bendix Missile
Plant. John was president of the International Radiology Business
Management Association (IRBMA) in 1992 and was a member of the
Board of Directors for four years. He was also an active member
of the national Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA).
John was a former member of the Data Processing Management
Association. He was also a member of the Bendix Management Club.
In the 1980s, he was an active member of the Wakarusa Lions Club.
John also belonged to the Toastmasters International
Communication and Leadership program and earned honors with the
group. He was a member of the St. Bavo Catholic Church in
Mishawaka.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. Seventh Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Ferrisville Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the National Parkinson's Foundation or to the Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available in the funeral home. Those serving as pall bearers are Andrew, John, Tom, Robert and David Beutter, and Phil Schlarb.
