MISHAWAKA - Walter A. Meinke, 94, of Thurston Woods Village, Sturgis, formerly of Mishawaka, died at 5 p.m. Sunday in Sturgis Hospital. Mr. Meinke retired in 1954 from Mishawaka Fire Department after 25 years of service as a firefighter. He was born March 16, 1902, in Elkhart County.

In 1935, in Mishawaka, he married Bertha Kreutz. She died May 16, 1966. He is survived by a sister, Ida Severance of Los Angeles; several nieces and nephews; a godchild, Donald Longnecker of Greenville, Mich.; and friends, Ruth and Harry Longenecker of Sturgis. He was a member of Indiana Retired Firemen's Association, and former member of St. Andrew's Church of Christ.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St. Entombment will be in Fairview Mausoleum. Friends may call from two hours before services on Thursday in the funeral home.
