SOUTH BEND - A spark of light was extinguished on March 8, 2008,
as our mom, Eunice, left this world for her next destination. A
current resident of Inwood Hills Estates and formerly of the
Sunnymede area, she was born on October 4, 1920, in Philadelphia,
PA, to the late Frank and Josephine Bock. Known for her
enthusiasm, joy of life, infectious spirit, large ornate glasses,
long dangling earrings, decorated canes/walkers, and her ability
to make friends with anyone, there were no strangers in Mom's
life. As she and Dad moved through their life together, they were
inspirations and living examples of "How to Fully Live
Life" to their children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, as well as their many friends and
acquaintances. We should all take great pleasure in knowing that
Mom is now in a better place with Dad, family members and friends
who have preceded her in passing, knowing that she is happy and
that she is planning their next Christmas Eve extravaganza for
all to attend. We will miss her tremendously, but her spirit
lives on within all of us. If the goal in life is to leave the
world in a little better shape than when we entered, Mom has
succeeded tremendously as we are all better off for having her be
a part of each of our lives. Eunice was active early on with the
Cub Scouts and Blue Birds, was historian of the Lady's Kiwanis
Auxiliary, Indiana Motor Truck Association, and was a member of
the Red Hatters Club of Inwood Hills Estates.
She was preceded in passing by her husband,
Albert, and her parents. She is survived by two sons, Thomas
(Ruth Ann) Meilstrup of Mishawaka and Ronald (Elyce) Meilstrup of
Gurnee, IL; a daughter, Susan (Bruce) Vanderbeek of
Mishawaka; grandchildren, Matthew (Mary Jo) Meilstrup, Mitchell
(Amy) Meilstrup, Andrew (Julie) Meilstrup, Amanda (Mike) Killberg,
Mindy (Pete) Robinson and David (Heidi) Vanderbeek; and
great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sydney, Zachary, Abby, William,
Joseph, Gabril, Kaylee and Cassi.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 11, from 5
to 8 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel on Ironwood
Drive. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 12th, at 11 a.m.
in the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to services.
The family is extremely grateful to the residents and staff of
Inwood Hills Estates who helped Eunice enjoy a wonderful,
rewarding period in her life. They also wish to thank all the
people involved with the Hospice House, who helped to make our
mother's final days comfortable and peaceful. We appreciate all
of you. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for
Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN
46637.
