SOUTH BEND - Urban Meese, 89, passed away Friday, December 18,
2009, at The Center for Hospice in South Bend. Born in Fort
Wayne, IN, he worked in management with Navistar for 38 years,
retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Charles Boromeo Catholic
Church, Knights of Columbus 451, American Legion Post 47 and the
Navistar Retirement Association. He served in the U.S. Army
during WW II, CBI Theatre of Operation in India. He's survived by
his sons, James Meese of South Bend, IN, and Daniel Meese of
Leawood, KS; stepsons, Mike Thomas and William P. Thomas, both of
Fort Wayne, Terrance J. Thomas of Austin, TX, and Theodore
"Ted" Smith of St. Joseph, MO; stepdaughters, Sally A.
Thomas of Louisville, KY, Joyce Culbertson and Sharon K. Thomas,
both of Fort Wayne, Mary Jo Clem of Columbia City and Nancy Lusty
of Irvin, TX; five grandchildren, 20 step-grandchildren, three
great-grandsons and seven step-great-great- grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred, second wife,
Dorthea Thomas-Meese, and third wife, Maxine Smith Meese. Service
is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church,
with calling one hour prior in the church. Burial at Catholic
Cemetery , Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to St.
Charles Catholic Church or to Gibault Home, P.O. Box 2316, Terre
