Louis C. Meert, 23506
Grant Rd., died at 11pm Thursday in St Joseph Hospital after an
illness of six weeks.
He was born in St
Jan Steen, Holland, July 29, 1899, coming here from Holland.
He married Miss Germaine Baeckelandt April 29, 1922 in Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, West Thomas Street. Mr. Meert was a
farmer.
Surviving are his
widow; four sons, James Ronald, Eugene and Daniel, all of South
Bend; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Matthys,of South Bend, and
Miss Marlene Meert and Miss Kathleen Meert, both at home; nine
grandchildren; and three brothers, Levi Meert, of Florida, Petrus
Meert, of St Louis MO; and Leonard Meert of Plainwell MI; and
three sisters, Mrs. Emiel DeCloedt, of Mishawaka, Mrs. Camiel
Coddens and Mrs. Maurice DeBaets, both of New Carlisle.
Friends may call
Saturday and Sunday in the DeVos Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Services
will be held at 10am Monday in Sacred Heart Church with Very Rev.
George J. Moorman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland
Cemetery. Mr. Meert was a member of the Volkskring Club and
the 100 Club of South Bend. The rosary will be recited at 7:30pm
Sunday in the funeral home.
