SOUTH BEND - Fred Medich, 55, of Winthrop Drive, died at 2:50 a.m. today in his home after an illness. Mr. Medich retired from Toro Wheelhorse and from the South Bend Police Department. He was born Oct. 3, 1939, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Misiak) Medich; three daughters, Debby Medich and Becky Medich, both of South Bend, and Wendy Mott of Mishawaka; a son, Fred M. of Mendon; four grandchildren; his mother, Mary Medich of South Bend; four sisters, Betty Barker of South Bend, Mildred Elliott of Portage, Ind., Mary Rose of Tucson, Ariz., and Helen Ullom of Jefferson City, Tenn.; and two brothers, Nick and George, both of South Bend. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Saints Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Zahoran Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 8 p.m., and one hour before services on Thursday in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
