MISHAWAKA - Michael McTighe, 73, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, in
Elkhart Hospice House. He was born on October 7, 1936, in Glen
Ridge, NJ, to the late John and Margaret (Kelliher) McTighe. He
was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Trubisky.
Michael worked for the St. Joseph County Juvenile Court as a
Probation Officer and Chief Adult Probation Officer. He was also
was the director of the Social Services Department at St. Joseph
Hospital and worked for the Family and Children's Center. For
many years he taught sociology at IUSB, Holy Cross School of
Nursing, St. Mary's College and Holy Cross Junior College. He was
a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1955 -1957 in Germany with the
Special Police. He received a BA and MA degree in sociology from
the University of Notre Dame. Survivors include a daughter,
Margaret "Peggy" (Michael) Rose Sr. of Granger; son,
Pierre (Libby) Mark of Edwardsville, IL; seven grandchildren,
Sarah, Grace, Michael Jr., Hope, Meredith, Nicholas and Mia;
brother, Jac (Donna) McTighe of Atlanta, GA; and sister, Kathleen
Flanigan of Greensburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews,
great-nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 1
p.m. Friday in the Courtyard at Cedar Grove Cemetery, University
of Notre Dame. Elkhart Cremation Services is assisting the family
with arrangements Cremation will take place at Elkhart Cremation
Services. Memorials may be made to the University of Notre Dame
in honor of Michael McTighe.
