Dorothy J. McNeff, 79, of Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday morning, Aug. 29, in her home.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 9, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Edward and Augusta (Schmitt) McLaughlin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred O'Connor in 1975; a brother, Edwin McLaughlin in 1923; and by a grandson, Jimmy Sidney in 1996. On Dec. 27, 1943, Dorothy married Thomas McNeff in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka. He also preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1982.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Hoban and Nancy (John) Nicolini, both of Mishawaka, and Mary (Philip) Sidney of Boston, Mass.; nine grandchildren, Thomas (Barbara) Canarecci of South Bend, Susan (Thomas) Felix of Granger, Ind., Beth (Michael) Moore of Mishawaka, Michael Nicolini of Elkhart, Ind., Michele (Terrence) Nicolini-Bush of South Bend, Kristin (Timothy) Shide of Granger, Catherine (Everett) Cauffman of Valparaiso, Ind., Jennifer (Brian) Hartline of Niles, Mich., and Molly Sidney of Boston; 10 great-grandchildren, Marie and Meghan Canarecci, Terrence and Victoria Bush, Airika Nicolini, Joshua Nicolini, William, Abigail and Madeline Felix, and Monica Shide; a brother, Thomas McLaughlin of Mishawaka; and an aunt, Virginia McQueen of Mount Prospect, Ill.
Dorothy was a former owner with her husband Tom of the McLaughlin Paint and Wallpaper Store in Mishawaka for 36 years, until 1981. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity, St. Joseph Parish, Mishawaka, the Rosary Society at church, the Theresians, was a volunteer at St. Joseph Grade School for 30 years, and was a volunteer and member of the Auxiliary at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 31, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Grade School, Mishawaka.
