SOUTH BEND - Lockie Bell McMahan, 85, of South Bend,
passed away at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in the Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born on
November 19, 1922, at the Perry Peters Lodge, Clifton, TN, to
John Frank and Julia Elizabeth (Dycus) Inman.
Lockie was preceded in death by her father
and mother, three brothers, Albert, Alvan and Ottis Inman, and a
sister, Nattele Ray. She was also preceded in death by two
sons, Cherry Page McMahan on September 20, 1995, and Michael
David McMahan on December 10, 2004; one grandson, Jack J. Johns
Jr.; and one great-grandson, David Allen Buell II. Lockie
married Alonzo Free; this marriage leaves one surviving
son, Earl (Alma) Free of South Bend.
On December 14, 1946, she married Price W.
McMahan. Lockie is survived by daughters, Nancy Johns of
South Bend and Joan (Harry) Buell of New Carlisle; sons, Danny
McMahan of Mishawaka and Johnny (Angie) McMahan of Mishawaka; 12
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild. Lockie moved to South Bend in 1951. She
was a homemaker and provided love and care to her children.
Lockie enjoyed babysitting the grandchildren and sewing handmade
quilts. Her most favorite thing to do was to go fishing. One of
her theories on raising seven children was to love them,
especially when they least deserved it. Lockie will be missed
greatly by her family and friends. Lockie Bell McMahan's journey
of life has ended. She can now rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Sunday, April 27, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel,
3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Burial will follow at Southlawn
Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to
8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the funeral home.
