Death
of Mrs. Samuel McKnight
August 2, 1908
Mrs.
Mary McKnight, one of the oldest and most respected residents of St. Joseph
County, passed away Sunday morning, a mile northeast of the city. Mrs. McKnight
had been ill for the past eight months, death resulting from complication of
diseases. She was 67 years old.
Mary
Eberhart was born February 15, 1841, in Illinois. From there she moved to this
vicinity and here has resided for more that fifty years. She was married March
17, 1858, to Samuel McKnight, who died some time ago. Mrs. McKnight took an
active part in the work of the M. E. Church.
She
is survived by two sons, Henry J., of Toledo, and Frank McKnight of Memphis,
Tenn., also one brother L. Eberhart of Nebraska and two sisters. Mrs. Vandruff
of Nebraska and Mrs. T. Vandruff, Kansas.
The
funeral was held Tuesday from the residence, the Rev. B. H. Beal officiation.
The six nephews, Charles Wood, Robert McKnight, Frank P. Emerson, A. D.
McKnight, C. C. Sweitzer and Palmer Eberhart acted as pall
bearers.
