Robert W. "Bob" McKay, 73,
of East Randolph Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1:15
p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, after an extended illness. Robert was
born in Benton Harbor, Mich., on Sept. 30, 1925. He was preceded
in death by a daughter, Sharon Sue in 1954; an infant daughter in
1959; and by his parents, Arthur and Edna Holth. He made
South Bend his home in 1936 and married Mary Hammond in
1950. He worked at the Torrington Company for 25 years and
retired 18 years ago after a severe injury. Robert was a Navy
veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 360 and the
American Legion. He is survived by his wife of more than 49
years, Mary; and two sons, David McKay and Kevin McKay, both of
South Bend; a stepson, Larry Carstens of Minnesota; nine
grandchildren, Stephanie Longest, Steven, Douglas,
Brandon, Brittany and Melissa McKay, Amanda Biggs, and
Misty and Shane Perrin; a great-grandson, Nicholas Longest;
and by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 30, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Robert McKay to the Humane Society.
